I learned a little bit about resolution today from my friend Greg Carstens, who is the coordinator of the Pierce County CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow) network. When the UW models say "36 km resolution," it refers to the detail of the existing hi-definition satellite from 36 km above the surface. For 12km resolution, it uses the same number of pixels, but is zoomed in. It is even more zoomed in for 4km, and it is super zoomed in for 4/3. It uses the same amount of pixels for each view, but since the area used gets smaller, there can be more detail.
I still don't feel confident in the models, but the NWS has issued a "Special Weather Statement" for us, highlighting windy conditions on the coast and northern interior and breezy conditions for the rest of Puget Sound. However, I have been seeing a trend to a weaker system, so that is why I have been hesitant for the last couple days to make any conclusions. I'd love a windstorm, but I don't think we are going to get one.

The Camano Island radar will be down until October 4th, but after that, we will have transitioned to having the worst radar coverage in the nation to one of the best.
